The Caesars

Bag om The Caesars

""The Caesars"" is a historical non-fiction book written by Thomas De Quincey. The book is a collection of biographical sketches of the Roman emperors from Julius Caesar to Nero. De Quincey presents a detailed account of the lives and reigns of these emperors, including their rise to power, their military conquests, and their personal lives. He also provides insights into the political, social, and cultural context of the Roman Empire during this period. The book is a fascinating exploration of one of the most intriguing periods in human history, and is an essential read for anyone interested in ancient Rome or the history of the world.Nero (for as to Claudius, he came too late to the throne to indulge any propensities of this nature with so little discretion) was but a variety of the same species. He also was an amateur, and an enthusiastic amateur of murder. But as this taste, in the most ingenious hands, is limited and monotonous in its modes of manifestation, it would be tedious to run through the long Suetonian roll-call of his peccadilloes in this way. One only we shall cite, to illustrate the amorous delight with which he pursued any murder which happened to be seasoned highly to his taste by enormous atrocity, and by almost unconquerable difficulty. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
