Bag om The Dog Rescuers
Zeus was a real dog that I rescued from a farmer’s field near Nashville, Tennessee. He was left in a field. The farmer had abandoned him, and I noticed he was limping. For days, I held up hamburgers through a fence in order gain his trust. I told Zeus, “If you get in my car you will live on a beautiful lake and have two little furry friends to guard and protect. And, I promise I will never hurt you.” He listened, and finally, hobbled into my little car. I quickly took him to a vet. The vet even stayed open late for us. Zeus had many ticks on him and was skinny and very afraid of people. But, I instantly fell in love with him and took him home to be my fur baby.
Zeus quickly became best friends with my little Maltese terriers named Romeo and Sammy. Romeo followed Zeus, his new hero, everywhere, and desired to be a big dog like Zeus. Romeo, though he was small, had a huge personality and inspired the character Kiddo.
Only two months after rescuing Zeus, our house caught on fire. Zeus was the one who woke up, barked and jumped at our back door and the back doors of two more homes that also caught on fire. Because of Zeus, all humans and animals got out safely. He received the Humane Society of America’s “Hero Dog Award.” He was a bonafide hero. He was like an angel, and he lived a good, long, healthy life. He is now in Heaven, and I believe my Big White Dog in the Sky, is looking after all the other little dogs and cats in at ‘The Rainbow Bridge.”
I’ve always felt that Zeus, Romeo and Sammy were communicating to each other unbeknownst to me.
