The Interrogator

When Rafe's elder brother is killed shortly before his marriage to a Princess of the Realm, he is forced to abandon his carefree lifestyle and take up the mantle of Heir Apparent. As the son of Duke Biantali, Rafe had been born into a world of privilege, even at the half-forgotten far end of the galaxy-spanning Eternal Empire. But he quickly learns the dark underside of politics within the Empire, and it isn't long before a dreaded Interrogator arrives to investigate the suspicious death of Rafe's brother. The embodiment of the Throne's Justice, the Interrogators root out corruption and adjudicate the law on a galactic scale. After Rafe learns he has been targeted by the same people who murdered his brother, the Interrogator makes him an offer. To keep his family safe, Rafe must leave his old life behind forever and become one of the Interrogators. It's a sacrifice he willingly makes, but he could never have foreseen the consequences, nor the price he'd pay when his eyes were opened to how the Empire truly worked.
