Polly McClaren's life couldn't be going any better. She's a food writer at a fashionable magazine, testing recipes and dishing out wholesome lifestyle tips on Instagram. She lives in a gorgeous part of Kensington and she has a dreamy boyfriend who is widely rumoured to pop the question any day now... until Polly catches George in the act with her best friend and flatmate. Desperate to escape the city and start fresh, Polly agrees to a year-long assignment in Cumbria to write a cookery book for the magazine, and to fill her social media pages in the hope of making her a genteel TikTok star.Polly meets John, the tenant dairy farmer, a quiet but hunky, alpha figure who is carefully setting Polly straight on everything she thought she knew about how farming. But Polly has more than one dilemma on her hands. Not only does she need to choose between her suitors, who have their own history, but she also must decide whether to write the book she has been tasked with or whether she risks explaining the 'real' countryside, with all it's delights and desperation, to people.
