Bag om The Prejudged
The first in a semi-autobiographical trilogy, The Prejudged tells of a young girl brought up in West Yorkshire, England in the 1950's. The author starts with her very earliest memory which took place before she was a year old when she recalls her mother hanging her nappies up on the line. The author goes on to develop some very unusual hobbies, studying genetics at the age of eight and preserving spiders in 2% formaldehyde before labelling them with their Latin names. Lynne's love of nature is encapsulated in her writing throughout. It is second only to the love that the author had for her dad who encouraged and supported his daughter throughout some difficult times as Lynne was born with cerebral palsy and another undiagnosed condition. At a time when disability prejudices were rife, this book movingly tells of the struggles of a bewildered young girl trying to make sense of the hostility she encountered. This is a profoundly moving book which shows how one person navigates obstacles which would defeat most people. It is profoundly moving and the writer's description of events as she looks back over her life will not leave you unmoved. It is a testimony to the insuperability of the human spirit.
