Bag om A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES IN

The present study has been divided into four parts. In the very part, a modest attempt is made to discuss the history of Indian English fiction, background of Indian novel, Vikram Seth¿s, and Arundhati Roy¿s place in the literary scenario. The second part is a study of the various innovative techniques and analysis of Vikram Seth¿s The Golden Gate. It is a tale in the oral tradition where in the listeners are acutely involved in the story and at the same time aware that it is not for real. Seth sets out to tell a story, a story that is intimate, emotional, and passionate. One of the greatest challengers of a novel of manners is to represent the surface signs of society such as conversation, current habits of speech, gestures, and social manners without producing a shallow narrative.
