A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court

Written partly as a satire of chivalry and the novels of Sir Walter Scott (whom Twain bizarrely blamed for the American Civil War), Mark Twain's classic humorous novel is about a 19th century American transported back in time to early medieval England. It can also be read as an early science-fiction novel, pre-dating H.G. Wells' 'Time Machine' by several years.
