An Inland Voyage

This is one of the author's famous travel adventures. Because outdoor trips were an unusual leisure pastime in 1878, Stevenson entranced his reading public. He painted an innocent Europe, showing gypsies and puppeteers, quaint military companies spending their time in parades and old sages of villages who never set foot outside of their country surroundings.
