Bag om Attack on the 'Idea of India'
In 2014, India reposed high hopes in Prime Minister Modi - to deliver 'New India' of plentiful jobs, double-digit growth and corruption-free efficient governance. A decade later, those hopes stand belied. Instead, relentless and multi-pronged attacks are underway to bring 'transformative' changes to the very 'idea of India' - a modern liberal democracy which its founding fathers envisioned, strived to establish and which its Constitution embodies.
The changes are aimed at installing a different idea of India- a Hindu majoritarian one which is exclusionary, discriminatory and hate-and-violence-filled. At one level, this book flags the myriad ways in which such attacks have been mounted, the elements and factors that are aiding it; at another, it gives a reality cheektooth long list of lofty claims, including ushering in the "Amrit Kaal". What is obvious is that none of these changes is making India better or brighter in anyway.
