Bag om Fragments of Memory

A bilingual poetry collection in English and Chinese, written by an astronomer with the understanding of harsh life, cosmos and philosophy. Born in China in a peasant family, left home at the age of 12 to find work, then joined Artillery Youth Training Regiment. During the civil war, he drifted from places to places in southeast China with the regiment and eventually settled in Taiwan. He came to America nearly 50 years ago to pursue graduate studies and received his MA degree from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT., and Ph.D. in astronomy from Columbia University in New York City. He did several years of pre- or post-graduate researches at Yale and Wesleyan Universities, then taught and conducted research in astronomy at Western Connecticut State University for 30 years. During his tenure as Chairman and Distinguished Professor of Astronomy, he has received numerous grants and awards from the National Science Foundation and other agencies. He has published nearly 100 research papers in Astronomical and Astrophysical Journals and books, proceedings, translations including the late Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" from English to Chinese with Hong-Yee Chiu (Yuanliou Books, received Dr. Da-Yu Wu's Science Writer Prize. After his retirement of teaching, he joined the Astronomy Department, Yale University to continue his research in dark matter, galaxy and cosmology for few more years. Then began his passion of listening to classical music, read and write poetry and joining a Creative Writing group to enrich his writing skill. His poems and other essays have been published in various publications. His first volume of Bilingual Poetry Collection: Who Speaks for Me? was published by Authorhouse in 2006.
