Resurrection

Bag om Resurrection

Resurrection is a novel by the famous Russian author, Leo Tolstoy. The book tells the story of a wealthy aristocrat named Dmitry Ivanovich Nekhlyudov, who is serving on a jury and realizes that the woman on trial is a former servant girl named Katusha Maslova, whom he once seduced and abandoned. Filled with guilt and remorse, Nekhlyudov sets out to make amends for his past actions and tries to help Katusha, who has been wrongfully accused of murder. The novel explores themes of love, redemption, justice, and the corrupt nature of the legal system in Tsarist Russia. Tolstoy uses the story to criticize the social and political structures of his time, and to argue for a more compassionate and just society. The characters are complex and fully realized, and the novel is known for its vivid descriptions of life in Russia during the late 19th century.Overall, Resurrection is a powerful and thought-provoking work of literature that continues to resonate with readers today. It is a must-read for fans of Tolstoy, Russian literature, and classic literature in general.1899. With illustrations from the Universal picture starring John Boles and Lupe Velez. Russian author, considered one of the greatest of all novelists. Tolstoy's major works include War and Peace and Anna Karenina. The plot of Resurrection is simple enough, and is based on a story Tolstoy read in a newspaper. Prince Nekhlyudov is rich and idle. Called to serve on a jury, he recognizes the accused woman as a girl he seduced some years earlier. The seduction ruined her; rejected by those who had brought her up, she was reduced to prostitution. Though innocent of the murder she is accused of, Maslova is nevertheless found guilty through a legal error (the jury omits to add the formula that she was innocent of the intention to kill as well as the actual act). Overcome with remorse, seeing himself as the cause of Maslova's degradation, Nekhlyudov vows to reform his life.
