Bag om South America ---Off the Beaten Track: Two Oldies (70) Adventure Travel in a Tiny Tent
Bernie and Yvonne Katchor, fun loving, very young adventuring 70 year olds, have been 47 years aboard their sailboats. However this beguiling set of narratives is on their, often perilous, yearlong SOUTH AMERICAN backpacking escapade of fulfilment and challenge to lesser known, if known at all, destinations. They travel unbelievable roads and trails by local open air bus, donkey, on the back of lumbering trucks, and even join a ship full of cattle. Walking is done when absolutely necessary. There are many warm, meaningful meetings with the locals and indigenous Indians .(people are the reason for travel the author claims) The excitement of 'bandits' in Columbia, Jaguars in Brazil, landslides in Ecuador, vast salt plains in Bolivia, sailing over Lake Titicata in Peru, joining a smuggling bus and tenting in minus 30 degrees Terra del Fuego are enjoyed to the full and documented in the joyous irreverent humour of this Australian.
