This Training Circular (TC) serves as a training support package for nonlethal training. The TC provides guidance for leaders conducting nonlethal weapons (NLW) training. It focuses on effective use of NLW and capabilities. This TC applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard (ARNG)/National Guard of the United States (ARNGUS), and the United States Army Reserves (USAR) unless otherwise stated. TC 3-19.5 is organized into the following eleven chapters and five appendices that provide nonlethal weapons training strategies and training support materials: Chapter 1, Introduction, explains the purpose and scope of the TC and describes the Army's nonlethal capability requirements. Chapter 2, Conduct of Training, provides the training strategy for nonlethal weapons training. Chapter 3, Employ 12 Gauge Point and Area Target Munitions, describes the characteristic, employment techniques, and training for the 12 gauge nonlethal rounds. Chapter 4, Employ 40 Millimeter Nonlethal Munitions, describes the characteristic, employment techniques, and training for the 40mm nonlethal munitions. Chapter 5, Employ Nonlethal Grenades, describes the specifications, safety features, and employment considerations for nonlethal hand thrown grenades. Chapter 6, Employ Modular Crowd Control Munition, explains how to train Soldiers to emplace, aim, and arm the M5 Modular Crowd Control Munition. Chapter 7, Employ 66 Millimeter Nonlethal Grenades, describes the loading, unloading, and launching procedures for 66mm nonlethal grenades. Chapter 8, Employ Individual Riot Control Agent Disperser, provides employment procedures for the M39 individual riot control agent disperser and describes physical and psychological effects of riot control agents. Chapter 9, Employ Electro-Muscular Disruption Device, explains the function, characteristics, and employment of the X26E TASER(R). Chapter 10, Employ Vehicle Barriers and Arresting Devices, describes training and employment of portable nonlethal vehicle barriers, arresting devices, spike systems, and caltrops. Chapter 11, Employ Communication Devices, explains the techniques for operating handheld language translators and voice amplifier. Appendix A, Nonlethal Capabilities Set, list the components currently available in the nonlethal capabilities set. Appendix B, Nonlethal Munitions Practical Exercise, contains instructor guidance and firing commands for conducting a practical exercise on 12 gauge and 40mm nonlethal munitions. Appendix C, M5 MCCM Practical Exercise, provides instructor guidance and firing commands for conducting a practical exercise on the M5 Modular Crowd Control Munition.
