Brinn Rhodry, after traveling through space for almost 10 years, decides she wants an organic co-pilot. She hires Lafe Reardon, a full-blood Human. After a perilous return to her home planet, they set out to find his long-lost brother, and find themselves embroiled in a megalomanic smuggler's plot.
