Grey travels with Jones on the Plains, encountering vicious cougars and wild stallions. Learning from Jones is the greatest adventure of Grey's life and gives him the background for his chosen career as a writer. Grey claimed the book was based on actual events, and despite its (by modern standards) questionable portrayal of some races, this remains a compellingly tale, told by a master of the Old West.
