The Plantation

The long wheat stalks rustled slightly in the breeze, the heat was oppressive. Jye straightened his back to look out at the South African Plains. The heat haze shimmered as he drew a sip from a parched canteen. It was all he could do not to pass out from exhaustion. The whip cracked on his back as punishment for resting too long. It was just another day in hell.
