What has Kyle Johnson been up to the last ten years? Both his strong willed girlfriend, Lisa, and the politically ambitious mayor of Cherry Valley are dying to find out. Kyle has recently returned home to set up shop as a painting contractor. It sounds as American as apple pie, but... He starts his journey with very little working capital, no employees, and minimal experience. In other words almost no chance. His response is "so what?" Seemingly out of the blue he lands a big contract for the painting of US Senator James Boyle's mansion. As he prepares for his breakout job he is faced with the dark underbelly of a corrupt city hall, a shady painter's union, and his own personal demons. He chooses to bend rules and break laws to accomplish his goals. As the summer unfolds the stakes are raised. Severe storms, attacking black bears, fist fights, and police intervention are only a part of the story that ends in a stunning and unexpected twist.
