Published anonymously, this 1864 work by Charles Tennant (1796-1873) is a critique and revision of John Stuart Mill's Utilitarianism (1863). The author accommodates the principle of utility within a Christian framework, and then applies it to problems of government, domestic policy, taxation, colonies, dependencies, and foreign policy.
