Shy and insecure, Laini Williams is counting the days until graduation when she can escape her hometown of Camden, Ohio. But when she is called on to act out a scene from Romeo and Juliet and football star Avery Pearson kisses her in front of the class, everything changes. Now, ignoring her best friend's warning, "Brainy Laini" is on the arm of the most popular jock in school. Haunted by her father's abandonment of her, Laini must learn to trust Avery's love and believe in herself. And like the Shakespearean plays she is reading in class, when her story becomes more a tragedy than a romance, Laini must overcome her insecurity and her grief to find strength within herself.
