Bag om Without Warning
In this volume of poetry, Fay Picardi evokes the people, the sounds, the colors, the aromas, the ageless beauty of Marrakech. Travel with her through the Souks, the gardens, the alleyways of the Medina. Listen with her to the mesmerizing sounds of the Call to Prayer, the High Atlas Mountain waterfalls and Berber music. Smell with her the aromas from the food stalls in the Jamma el-Fna. Follow in the dusty paths of the ancients. These poems are both sheer poetry and a thought provoking look at a city and culture that has always beckoned the artistic and imaginative by its allure. In the poem "Burnt Sienna," Ms. Picardi begins with this line: "In the Medina, seduction waits at every turn." She follows with a description of the diversity of the alleyways in the daylight and the mysterious aura they create at night. Through these poems, the reader can experience the mood and many of the sights any visitor might experience in Marrakesh and its surrounds. With specific descriptions The Secret Garden, The Majorelle Gardens, the Madrasa Ben Jouseff, and many other frequently visited places, this volume becomes a travel guide for the both the actual and the armchair visitor. As Ms. Picardi states best herself, "... seduction waits at every turn." Of a page, that is.
