Almost four centuries of New York's history are filled with many amazing events, each of them is significant and interesting in its own way. But among them, a special place is occupied by those that determined the character and fate of New York. This is what the book is about. The reader is expected not so much a measured walk through the pages of a history textbook, but an intense immersion in the rather difficult life of a great city-from the moment of its foundation and almost to the present day. The narrative is conducted in two levels: the actual story about the city and the historical context of the event.
