Bag om Beloved Bundts
Very few desserts can boast a history like the Bundt cake. Derived from the traditional German gugelhupf or kugelhupf cake, the oldest recipe for the Bundt dates back to 1581. These cakes were loved by the infamous French queen Marie Antoinette. The Grimm brothers also wrote about them. They are traditionally baked in a cast iron mold, making them prohibitively expensive to common people throughout most of their history. The Bundt cake rose to popularity in the mid-20th century when the Dalquist brothers founded the Nordic Ware Company and patented the cast aluminum pan that they named the Bundt. Today the pan is widely available in many shapes (such as classic, swirly, rose, diamond, castle, and skull) and made of many different materials (such as aluminum, cast iron, ceramic, and so on). They came in a variety of sizes as well, such as full size, half size, and mini Bundts the size of a cupcake.
